I love big, bright smiles. When someone has white teeth, I’m like a bug to a light and I cannot stop staring because I just love white teeth. There was a moment in time where I actually wanted to be a dentist, however, I realized I just like bright smiles and don’t necessarily like looking in mouths. As far as whitening my teeth, I have always been a fan of the strips and before any big event or night out, I would whiten my teeth as part of my beauty prep.
When Smile Brilliant had contacted me about their product, I was a little hesitant because I was such a fan of the strips. But as a big fan of red wine, coffee, and white teeth, I wanted to try it out! Here is my honest review with pros and cons of Smile Brilliant’s whitening system.
DISCLOSURE: I received this product complimentary from the company directly in exchange for a review of their product. As always, all content and opinions are my own.
PRO’s:
Customized trays. These trays are great. You make a mold of your impressions that are sent to a lab which creates an exact model of your teeth and a custom-fitted tray. I had originally thought they were going to be a hard plastic, but they were soft, flexible, and comfortable to wear. The trays are customized with each indentation of my teeth. This ensures that every angle of every tooth (regardless if my teeth are crooked or not) gets full coverage with the whitening gel. This is a huge difference vs. the strips where some spaces of your teeth are not touching the solution.
Convenience. You don’t have to go to the dentist office to get the customized trays and you can do everything from your house at your own convenience.
Cost. When comparing this to a professional whitening system (which can cost up to $500+ from a dentist in the US), this is a fraction of the cost.
Less Sensitivity. One thing about the white strips is my crazy sensitivity after whitening my teeth. Sensitivity after whitening is totally normal and more than 60% of Americans have naturally sensitive teeth. With Smile Brilliant’s formula, they have a de-sensitizing agent that closes the pores after you use it and I think this had helped my sensitivity. tremendously! If you have sensitivity to a whitening system, this should definitely be your way to whiten your teeth!
CONS:
The process. When you make the impressions, you have to put the mold in your mouth for a couple minutes and this process wasn’t the most pleasant. Your mouth is stuffed with either the bottom or the top tray and your salivary glands are going wild! Well, at least mine were and I was drooling all over the place. With the strips, you avoid this step all together (unwrap from package, slap on your teeth, boom and done). However, when you get your teeth professionally whitened, you have to do similar process in the doctor’s office.
Time. Again, I’m used to the strips where you wear them for 15 minutes at a time and you’re a go. However, with this system, they recommend you wear the trays with the whitening gel for at least 45 minutes. AND then, recommend you wear the desensitizing gel for another 20 minutes after that. They also recommend you do it at night for the best results. My nighttime schedule is nuts. Ex: feeding kids, putting kids to bed, nursing baby. By the time I had a minute to myself to get ready for bed, I was exhausted and the 45 minutes + 20 minutes seemed like too much work some nights. One night I actually feel asleep in them (not recommended but it was fine for me). Of course, I’m making this to be a bigger deal than it was but wanted to point it out!

AFTER:
**I’m laughing at my before and after pictures because it doesn’t look like it did anything but I swear my teeth look whiter.
My recommendation.
Based on my personal experience with Smile Brilliant’s system I am very happy with how white my teeth are from this process. Plus, I don’t have crazy sensitivity like I did with the white stripes. I would say that the whitening capability is similar, if not the same, to what I get with whitening strips, which is pretty, pretty white! YES!
I’ve never had my teeth professional whitened because of the cost which is awesome that Smile Brilliant offers a cost friendly way to get similar results. My only teeth whitening experience prior to this was with the whitening strips. I would say that if you aren’t a fan of the strips, or have crazy sensitivity, or have crooked teeth; Smile Brilliant’s system is the way to go!
